Leslie Harris
I am a painter and a mixed media artist, working in the fluid space between the figurative and the abstract. My work is informed by my global travels and my strong commitment to social justice, forged during my many years as a civil liberties and human rights lawyer. I am drawn to what is lost, broken, forgotten, disappearing or dismissed. In my work, I aim to uncover, reimagine and animate what remains with layers of energy, light, color, memory and hope.
In “Waiting” I consider how our country is becoming more divided. Hate and intolerance are again spreading around the world. I imagine our obligation to repair the world as a chrysalis where tolerance, respect for difference, religious liberty and community are nurtured. We are waiting for spring.
I have studied with Mira Hecht at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, the Yellow Barn at Glen Echo, the Provincetown Art Association Museum in Provincetown, the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill and the Taos Art Workshop to name a few. I am a member of the E Street Painters and recently joined the newly formed Ch/Arts.
My work has been shown at the Watergate Gallery, the Writers Center in Bethesda, the Yellow Barn at Glen Echo and the Corcoran College of Art and Design.
