Aurie Hall

Aurie Hall is an attorney, activist and artist.  Her practice areas included reproductive rights, criminal defense and civil rights for incarcerated people.  For almost a decade, Aurie served as the founding Director of the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Program for the Open Society Institute in Baltimore.  In that capacity, she created funding programs to help people transition from prison to the community and to stop the school to prison pipeline.  In recent years, Aurie served on the board of City First Enterprises, which promotes affordable housing in DC.

For the past several years, Aurie has seriously pursued her interest in art, both in painting and in collage.  She creates and exhibits with colleagues from the Corcoran School of Art and Design, and her artwork has been purchased for both public and private collections. Aurie takes inspiration from the natural world, but her work also speaks to social issues.  Aurie’s artwork is executed in many layers of transparencies and has a delicate, but vibrant sensibility. Her collages are evocative, using photographs, transparency and layered images. Aurie’s work has been included in a number of local shows, including the following:
